It seemed that the NBA Finals taking place this year was near impossible due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. And yet, here we are, as the NBA’s bubble environment in Orlando ensured that the 2019-20 season could reach its deserving conclusion. And it all starts on Wednesday evening, as the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers take on the well-rounded Miami Heat.

The Lakers making it to the league’s final series comes as no surprise, considering they have a superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Los Angeles was able to handle inferior competition in the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets, thanks in part to the play of James (26.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game) and Davis (28.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game).

This is Los Angeles first NBA Finals appearance since 2010, when Kobe Bryant defeated the Boston Celtics in seven games. Now, they’re looking to honor Bryant’s legacy by hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy when all is said and done, but it won’t come easy.

Miami’s playoff run has been nothing short of sensational. The Heat managed to sweep the Indiana Pacers in the first round, sent the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks packing in the conference semifinals, and held off the Boston Celtics in six games to make it to this point.

Miami decided to pull the trigger on a sign-and-trade deal that gave them Jimmy Butler last summer. While Butler’s presence has helped, he hasn’t had to put the entire team on his back, because the Heat’s roster is stacked with contributors. Bam Adebayo, rookie Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Goran Dragic — the list goes on and on.

Can the Heat use their roster depth to their advantage, or will Los Angeles’ dynamic duo prove to be too much for Miami?
