Amari Cooper could have best game of season vs. Browns in Week 4
By John Buhler
Amari Cooper may have his best fantasy performance of 2020 on Sunday.
Even though they are below .500 through three games, the Dallas Cowboys lead the putrid NFC East. Despite not exactly being all that impressive in September, the offense has shown signs of consistency under new head coach Mike McCarthy. One player who has been the model of consistency through three weeks for him has been his No. 1 wide receiver, Amari Cooper.
The Fantasy Footballers look at the Cowboys’ Week 4 matchup at home vs. the Cleveland Browns and ask themselves if Cooper will have his best game of the season. Though Andy Holloway and Jason Moore aren’t certain of that, Mike Wright is buying it for two reasons: One, he’s been a walking 13 points in fantasy the first three weeks. And two, he has yet to score a touchdown.

This may not be the type of production you’d want to see out of a team’s bona fide No. 1 wide receiver, but it’s not like the Cowboys are devoid of talent in the passing game. Quarterback Dak Prescott has plenty of receivers to spread the ball around, as well as having one of the best running backs in football in Ezekiel Elliott to hand the ball off to.
If Amari Cooper finds pay dirt, he should have his best game of the season.
Even though the Browns are 2-1, this is a bit of uncharted territory for this AFC North franchise. While many people think they’ll push for a Wild Card spot this year, they haven’t been to the playoffs since 2002 and haven’t won their division in over 30 years. The last time it happened, they played in the old AFC Central. They could get to 3-1, but this is a decent matchup for Dallas.
Frankly, it’s only a matter of time before Cooper finds pay dirt. When he does, that’ll be an extra six points on the fantasy ledger. Given that he’s averaging slightly over eight catches a game for 89 yards, he could push for 20 or more fantasy points on Sunday at home vs. the Browns. It should be a close game between Dallas and Cleveland, but one the Cowboys need to get back to .500.
Ultimately, Cooper and the rest of the Cowboys are in the beginning stages of learning McCarthy’s offense. When he was the Green Bay Packers head coach, the passing game far exceeded the ground game. Given that Cooper is the Cowboys’ No. 1 receiving option, it’s only a matter of time before he really taps into what McCarthy and his staff are trying to do. Week 4 could be that week.
