Brett Rypien’s latest dime has the best QB’s in the NFL impressed
By Scott Rogust
Brett Rypien is the Denver Broncos’ third-string quarterback, and he’s impressing some of the best passers in the league with his dimes.
Prior to the start of the 2020 NFL season, many were picking the Denver Broncos to be a playoff contender, based off their talent on the offensive side of the ball. But, they’ve had terrible luck with injuries, with one of them being to starting quarterback Drew Lock, who suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2. Last weekend, the Broncos had to rely on Jeff Driskell, who was far from impressive, leading to head coach Vic Fangio naming third-stringer Brett Rypien as the team’s Week 4 starter against the New York Jets.
For an undrafted free agent out of Boise State in 2019, Rypien was puling off some impressive passes, including his end zone pass to wide receiver Tim Patrick for the third-quarter touchdown to give the Broncos the 24-16 lead. Not only did Rypien leave fans in awe that dime drop, but also Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson!

Rypien letting it rip on Thursday Night Football
Rypien spent four years with Boise State, where he was the starting quarterback from Day One. In 50 games with the Mountain West university, Rypien completed 64-percent of his passes for 13,578 yards, 90 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. In his final season, Rypien won the MWC’s Offensive Player of the Year Award.
It was only fitting that Rypien would join the NFL’s Broncos after he went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft. After bouncing back and forth from the active roster to the practice squad in his rookie season, Rypien finally got his chance this year after entering in relief of Driskell in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rypien completed eight-of-nine pass attempts for 53 yards and an interception.
Rypien has proven that he’s a serviceable starter, but will have to work on his decision-making, based off his two interceptions in the fourth quarter of the Jets contract. Once the game is over, you best believe that Rypien will be smiling ear to ear upon seeing Wilson’s tweet appear on his phone after the game.
