The Cardinals are looking to pull off the upset against the Padres.

The San Diego Padres were one of the most exciting teams in baseball this season and earned a home playoff series as a result. The St. Louis Cardinals had to pack in a ton of games late and it would be fair to expect them to be tired.

So far the Cardinals look just fine after picking up a 7-4 victory in Game 1 of what is only a best-of-three series. The St. Louis offense shocked San Diego with a four-run first inning and the Padres will need a much better start in Game 2.

What to watch for in Padres-Cardinals Game 2

All eyes in San Diego will be on starting pitcher Zach Davies. He gets the nod in Game 2 after Chris Paddack allowed six earned runs in 2.1 innings Wednesday night. The top of the lineup featuring Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer also need to step up and provide more support to the pitching staff. That trio combined to go 2-13 in Game 1.

The Cardinals are in great shape and have Adam Wainwright on the mound in Game 2. He finished the regular season with a 3.15 ERA and did not allow more than three earned runs in any of his starts during the month of September.

All the pressure is on a Padres team that is back in the postseason for the first time since 2006. As we have seen in the American League this week, sometimes having the playoff experience is the ultimate key.
