The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off an embarrassing loss to Kansas State, can they get back on track with a win over the Iowa State Cyclones?

The Big 12’s season has gotten off to a disastrous start and the two teams meeting in Ames, Iowa Saturday night are a primary reason for this self-destruction. The Oklahoma Sooners, a College Football Playoff favorite, had almost everything going for them in the first two and a half quarters against Kansas State, but that is why we play the entire game. With over six minutes left to go in the third quarter, the Sooners had a 28-7 lead looked to be on their way to victory.

But that’s when the Wildcats gained life and outscored the Sooners 31 to 7 in the final 18 minutes of game time. Aside from the Sooners one touchdown drive during that span, Oklahoma’s offense was held to just 50 total yards on offense and turned the ball over twice. And on defense, the Sooners allowed 265 yards, including two drives that both went for 75-yards in just three plays. Kansas State would upset the Sooners for the second year in a row.

The Iowa State Cyclones’ disastrous loss came in their season opener. With expectations high, the Cyclones were ready to take the conference by storm. But just after one game those expectations were turned into disappointment. After a scoreless first quarter, Iowa State got on the board with a touchdown and things looked to be going their way for about 14 seconds. That is when Louisiana ran the ensuing kickoff back for a 95-yard touchdown.

From there, the Cyclones would go on score just score seven more points, while the Ragin Cajuns would score another 24 points. The Cyclones were held scoreless in the second half and quarterback Brock Purdy completed less than half of his passes and finished the game with under 150 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. Iowa State would bounce back, beating TCU last Saturday 37 to 34 in a game that had the “no you can win” kind of feeling to it.

Both teams are 1-1 and both teams are looking for this game to save and their season and hopefully start a run to the conference championship game.

Prediction: Sooner’s quarterback Spencer Rattler has shown off his talent this season but has made some mistakes, throwing three interceptions to go along with some questionable throws that were almost picked off themselves. Rattler’s performance will be the biggest x-factor for the Sooners in this one. For the Cyclones, while Purdy has struggled, running back Breece Hall has become a star in the making rushing for 258 yards and four scores in their first two games. Hall will keep the Cyclones in this one but Purdy’s regression will be detrimental and the Sooners will prevail on the road.

Score: Oklahoma 38, Iowa State 31
