The Alabama Crimson Tide opened up 2020 with a decisive win over a Missouri, but face a Texas A&M Aggies team looking for a signature win.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are what they have been for the past decade or so: one of the best teams in all of college football, and in their season opener versus Missouri, they showed that this year would be no different. Alabama wasted no time putting this game out of reach of the Tigers going into halftime with a 28 to 3 lead that would grow even larger shortly after the start of the third quarter.

Their offense, which saw first and second team players see the field, totaled over 400 yards. Quarterback Mac Jones looked in midseason form, completing 75 percent of his passes while throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns, finishing the game with a 95.2 QBR. The Alabama defense was just as dominant when it mattered. Missouri picked up some garbage time yards and scores but prior to that, Alabama’s defense was performing as it normally does.

The Tide take on the Texas A&M Aggies who are hoping 2020 is the year they prove themselves worthy to the rest of the conference and make the jump from an underperforming football team to an elite football team. But after their performance in their season opener, the Aggies seem to be off to a slow start of accomplishing that goal. The Aggies took on Vanderbilt, in a game in which they were heavily favored but ended up winning 17-12.

On offense, the Aggies backfield was in full-affect, as Isaiah Spiller and Ainias Smith combined for 195 total yards and one score. As for the rest of the offense, including quarterback Kellen Mond, they’ll need to make vast improvements if they want to take down Alabama. The defense on the other hand was not hot and cold like the Texas A&M offense was. The Aggies allowed just 255 yards of offense, forced two turnovers, and recorded a sack.

It’s no question that if Texas A&M was to defeat Alabama that they would prove that they have made the jump to garner the respect that they desire. But after their poor-showing versus Vanderbilt, the Aggies look to be headed into a game that will put them in their place. Can the Aggies leave last week in the past and upset The Tide? Or is Alabama on another collision course for The College Football Playoff?

Prediction: This game could go either way but after their performance in their season opener, I have some doubts about how the Aggies will perform. Nonetheless, the Aggies will play this one tough and will hang around for most of the game. But Alabama’s offense, and defense, have the edge and will be too much for the Aggies to defend and score on. Jones has a stellar game against A&M’s strong secondary and throws his name into the running for the Heisman, as the Crimson Tide send the Aggies home with a loss.

Score: Alabama 34, Texas A&M 24
