Sam Ehlinger revealed what cost Texas in the Longhorns’ upset loss to TCU.

As you might expect, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger took Saturday’s loss to TCU pretty hard.

The road to the Big 12 title is now steeper. A potential run to the playoff is more complicated.

“Losing. Losing bothers me the most. This university deserves better,” Ehlinger told reporters via Zoom.

Losing sucks, no one would dispute that. What will be debated is the “why” of Texas’ latest upset.

Ehlinger has an answer for that: “I think we stopped ourselves. We didn’t play well enough to win.”

Sam Ehlinger blamed Texas for getting in their own way against TCU

A child playing an endless game of the “But Why?” could have a field day with this loss.

Texas lost. But why? They stopped themselves. But why? They didn’t play well enough to win. But why?

Ehlinger contributed. He threw an interception. Then again, he threw four touchdowns to keep Texas in the game at all.

Running back Keaontay Ingram didn’t help. He fumbled at the goal line with a chance to put the Longhorns up late.

The defense had plenty of problems. They gave up 457 yards of total offense and 33 points. The team as a whole was sloppy with 12 penalties for 92 yards.

No doubt, fans are already throwing the ultimate blame at head coach Tom Herman.

It wasn’t a banner day in Austin. It should be a wake-up call for the Longhorns. They aren’t going to win many games this season playing like that.

For his part, Ehlinger seems to get that.

“We shouldn’t be thinking big picture with the amount of small mistakes that we made,” he said.

It’ll take facing a lot of uncomfortable why’s to get those mistakes cleaned up.
