In the marquee game of the weekend, Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils have three points in their first two games of the season. While Tottenham have picked up four points from their first three games.
After losing their first game of the season to Crystal Palace, United rebounded and defeated Brighton 3-2. Despite the victory, the poor performances to start the season has only increased the heat around manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils’ poor start to the season can be attributed to their shaky defense. Solskjaer has struggled to figure out how to best line up his club at the back. While United have struggled defensively, Bruno Fernandes has been a monster in midfield. In all competitions for United, Fernandes has scored 13 goals and added 10 assists in 25 games since joining from Sporting Lisbon at the end of January.
Tottenham dominated Newcastle in their last Premier League fixture. However, the club had to settle for a draw after Newcastle were controversially awarded a penalty in the 97th minute. After watching Callum Wilson convert the penalty, manager Jose Mourinho stormed off the pitch before the final whistle sounded. Mourinho’s seat is again hot, as Tottenham expect to compete for a spot in the top four this season following last season’s disappointing sixth-place finish. Spurs will be without Heung-min Son on Sunday. The South Korean attacker has been incredible this season, scoring four goals but will miss the game with a thigh issue. Steven Bergwijn will start in his place as Spurs go for their second win of the season.
