Brian Hoyer embraces his inner Chris Webber and calls for a timeout he didn’t have.

Brian Hoyer took the worst sack ever because he thought he had a timeout…

The New England Patriots quarterback was making his first start of the season filling in for Cam Newton, who contracted the coronavirus earlier in the week. Down 6-3 with seconds left in the first half, the journeyman signal-caller hit the turf like a sack of potatoes on a Frank Clark sack. He tried to call timeout like Chris Webber did back in the day, but he derped and it was halftime.

Spartans and Wolverines may have more in common than you think.

Webber is a Michigan man, while Hoyer hails from Sparty. No matter what Big Ten rival they played for, they have at least one thing in common now: Calling timeout after embarrassing himself on a big stage when he didn’t have a timeout to call in the first place. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year, and the North Carolina Tar Heels won it all 30 years ago.

This game may not be for a championship, but this was Hoyer’s championship in 2020, and he freaking blew it. Even though his Patriots may still win the game on the road at Arrowhead because they are the Evil Empire for a reason, this may be the only start Hoyer gets to make this season. Once Newton is healthy, the former Michigan State standout goes back to clipboard duty.

While we laugh at Hoyer, only Webber will be able to even remotely sympathize with him.
