After a COVID-19 scare, the Patriots and Chiefs will kick off on Monday night

Two known COVID-19 cases in the Patriots and Chiefs locker rooms — both New England QB Cam Newton and Kansas City practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu — forced Sunday afternoon’s game to be postponed until Monday night.

With Newton out due to his COVID-19 test, the Patriots will turn to veteran Brian Hoyer, who is winless in his last ten starts. Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels trust him enough to put him in this position, however, so don’t expect New England’s offense to simply roll over.

The Chiefs are favored by a hefty amount for good reason. Kansas City is coming off an impressive win over Baltimore, who was thought to be their closest competition not just in the AFC, but perhaps the entire NFL. Patrick Mahomes is the only competitor to Seattle’s Russell Wilson for the MVP race right now, and he’s making it look easy. Some have even made the argument that the Chiefs are better this year than last.

Reminder: They won the damn Super Bowl last season.

While that’s not a fair assessment to make until we see the Chiefs lift the Lombardi Trophy for the second straight season, they’re the favorites to do so for a reason.

Chris Jones headlines the Kansas City injury report for Week 4, and the Chiefs defensive line will take a major hit without him. That’s also a major break for Hoyer, who should have more time to throw as a result.
