Fantasy Football: Best waiver wire adds for Week 5
Another week in the NFL has passed. Naturally, we had more injuries to players that we will need to replace. Let’s dive into my favorites that you can find on the Waiver Wire.
We saw injuries to Austin Ekeler, Nick Chubb, Mike Evans & Chris Carson (who both returned to the game). The two most important being Ekeler and Chubb. Both are expected to miss multiple weeks. So naturally, the players we turn to are their immediate backups:
D’Ernest Johnson (owned in 0% of leagues): When Chubb went down, we expected all the work to go to Kareem Hunt. D’Ernest Johnson had other plans. He came in and accumulated 13 carries for 95 yards. Kareem Hunt is still the favored RB in this ‘committee’, but if your team is banged up, pick up D’Ernest as a flex fill-in for the time Chubb is out. The Browns have shown to be one of the only teams capable of supporting two fantasy relevant running backs.
Joshua Kelley (56.9%) & Justin Jackson (8.8%): Both Chargers RB’s are targets off the Waiver Wire. Kelley is preferred slightly, but he has shown the ability to fumble. Kelley has fumbled in the last two games. Makes me believe that they have lost some trust in Kelley. This is a team that loves to run the ball and they can’t afford turnovers. I’d pick up Jackson in all leagues that you can afford it. This backfield will take a week to work out the rotations. Ekeler’s injury is one to monitor. Both Kelley and Jackson will be high priority on the Waiver Wire this week.
