NFL quarterback rankings, Week 5: Tom Brady is still the GOAT
After throwing for five touchdowns in a thrilling comeback win, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady proved he’s still got magic in him.
In the 2020 FanSided NFL quarterback rankings — which go live here every Tuesday morning throughout the regular season — we use a weighted average of current and past performances, with the former meaning more than the latter.
Away we go.
2020 stats: 295 yards | 67.5 completion % | 2 TDs | 4 INTs | 7.4 YPA | 61.1 QBR
Last Week: NA
Rypien made some nice throws in Denver’s 37-28 win over the Jets. The problem? Three hideous interceptions, including a pick-six. It was the youngster’s first start, but he clearly projects as competing for a backup job.
2020 stats: 614 yards | 69.9 completion % | 2 TDs | 3 INTs | 8.4 YPA | 39.2 QBR
Last Week: NA
Never a good sign when you get yanked for C.J. Beathard. Mullens threw an atrocious interception — his second of the night — which sealed San Francisco’s fate against the Philadelphia Eagles. He’ll be back to riding the pine come Week 5.
2020 stats: 792 yards | 59.4 completion % | 3 TDs | 4 INTs | 5.7 YPA | 47.5 QBR
Last Week: 31
The film doesn’t lie. Darnold is jittery in the pocket, late on throws (especially between the numbers) and is often inaccurate with his placement. The Jets are an abomination, but Darnold is certainly part of the problem.
2020 stats: 939 yards | 61.0 completion % | 4 TDs | 3 INTs | 6.4 YPA | 30.7 QBR
Last Week: 30
Haskins was better on Sunday against the Ravens and moves up a spot. Still, though, everything is short. Haskins had 45 attempts and only nine traveled at least 10 yards in the air. This is mind-boggling considering Washington was trailing almost the entire game.
2020 stats: 889 yards | 61.1 completion % | 2 TDs | 5 INTs | 6.0 YPA | 46.9 QBR
Last Week: 28
Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. The Giants are pathetic offensively but were somehow in position to tie the Rams in the waning seconds on Sunday. Then, Jones, who could have run for an easy first down to set up first-and-goal, threw into coverage. It’s constant.
2020 stats: 437 yards | 59.2 completion % | 4 TDs | 2 INTs | 6.2 YPA | 50.3 QBR
Last Week: 26
The line says 26-of-49 for 242 yards with a touchdown and interception. The actual tape shows most of the positive numbers came on a meaningless final drive. Foles did his best Mitch Trubisky impression, throwing short and inaccurately. The Bears are without a quarterback who can play.
2020 stats: 930 yards | 60.6 completion % | 4 TDs | 7 INTs | 5.8 YPA | 45.1 QBR
Last Week: 27
Wentz looked marginally better against the 49ers in Philadelphia’s first win this season. However, he completed two passes more than 10 air yards, albeit including a beautiful 32-yard touchdown to essentially secure victory. Part of Wentz’s issues are a complete lack of talent around him, but his pocket presence and accuracy have been substandard.
2020 stats: 994 yards | 69.0 completion % | 4 TDs | 5 INTs | 7.0 YPA | 79.4 QBR

When is Tua Tagovailoa going to get his chance? Fitzpatrick threw two interceptions and contributed to Miami bogging down, time and again against the league-worst Seattle Seahawks’ defense. It’s no slam on Fitzpatrick, but he’s who he has always been; a good backup.
