Week 5 of the NFL season is here and there’s no shortage of intriguing matchups. Here are five interesting battles you should keep an eye on.

This is the point of the NFL regular season where it becomes difficult for opposing coaching staffs or players to spring surprises on their opponents. There’s enough film out there now for everyone to have a pretty good idea what they’re going to face on a weekly basis. That doesn’t mean everyone has worked out a solution to stop the opposition.

As usual, superior talent will continue to win out. The brightest stars will lift their teams to victory while mediocre players will doom their respective franchises to defeats.

That makes individual matchups something every NFL fan should focus on. Keep a close eye on the following five matchups this week.

5. Cowboys’ porous defense vs. Giants’ listless offense

Interesting matchups don’t always have to feature talented units. When Dallas and New York get together on Sunday it will actually pit two of the league’s weakest units against one another. The Cowboys defense has been horrendous through four games while the Giants offense looks toothless without the services of Saquon Barkley.

Simply put, someone has to win this battle on Sunday. Daniel Jones will like his chances to torch a Dallas secondary that has given up a ton of big plays on the season. The Cowboys defense will look at the Giants’ offensive line and see a real opportunity to generate tons of pressure.

The group that wins this battle won’t suddenly establish themselves as anything more than mediocre, but it could be a stepping stone for either unit.
