North Dakota State QB Trey Lance declares for NFL Draft

Trey Lance is headed to the NFL next year
Perennial powers like Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia will once again be sending quarterbacks to the NFL next season, but little old North Dakota State is on the verge of sending their second elite quarterback prospect in the last decade to the league in Trey Lance. Scouts are drooling over his bazooka of a right arm and ability to do damage as a runner, and Lance decided not to keep them waiting any longer.
Even though he is a redshirt sophomore from an FCS school with just a handful of starts, Lance feels as if he’s shown enough to be picked high in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lance confirmed on his Twitter account that he is leaving Fargo and will begin prepping for the NFL.
Trey Lance has tremendous arm talent and great mobility for a quarterback
Lance made waves when he accounted for 42 total touchdowns, 28 of which came through the air, without throwing a single interception as the Bison won yet another FCS title championship. While Lance’s Bison saw their season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was able to record four total touchdowns in a win over Central Arkansas that served as a showcase game for him and offensive tackle Dillon Radunz.
While Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields have established themselves as the country’s two premier quarterback prospects, Lance is clearly in third place. Given the large number of teams who could consider a quarterback change, look for Lance to be picked in the middle of the first round.

Lance is as raw as sashimi, so it will take a while to polish him up before he’s ready for primetime. However, the raw materials he will provide to any team who takes a chance on him could make him a perennial Pro Bowler with the right system and coaching around him.
