The Tampa Bay Rays will try and even up their series with the New York Yankees in Game 2 of their ALDS battle.
On Monday night, the New York Yankees put on a show at the dish, helping them cruise to a 9-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Come Tuesday, though, the Rays will look to do everything possible to prevent themselves from getting into an 0-2 hole.
With both the Yankees and Rays hungry to get a win on Tuesday for Game 2, which AL East club will end up getting the job done at Petco Park in San Diego?
What to watch for in Game 2 of Yankees vs. Rays
In a big surprise decision from Yankees manager Aaron Boone, he has decided to save Masahiro Tanaka for Game 3 of the series and he’ll be sending out rookie hurler Deivi Garcia to take on Tampa Bay for Game 2 instead. Garcia, just 21 years old, went 3-2 during the regular season, recording 33 strikeouts and a 4.98 ERA.
This is his first taste of postseason action, but Boone is wasting no time letting him get his feet wet for a big matchup against the Rays. Fortunately for Garcia, he’ll have the confidence knowing he’s got the bats of Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge and others ready to help him out with some run support. In the Game 1 win, Stanton highlighted things with his grand slam.
For Tampa Bay, they’ll send Tyler Glasnow to the bump on Tuesday to try and keep the Bronx Bombers quiet. Glasnow went 5-1, with a 4.08 ERA during the shortened 60-game campaign.
