Welterweight Brandun Lee made easy work of Jimmy Williams, putting him down three times before knocking him out cold in the first round.

Brandun Lee was hot a prospect headed into his Wednesday, Oct. 7 bout on ShoBox against Jimmy Williams, but his performance resonated around the boxing world.

Lee (20-0, 18 KOs), 21, of La Quinta, California, is rated as the 118th best welterweight in the world by Boxrec.com, but his sensational knockout of Williams will have him moving up the rankings at a fast pace.

Williams (16-4-2, 5 KOs), 34, of New Haven, Connecticut, wasn’t the best opponent on paper, but he had a winning record and should have given Lee a few rounds of work.

That didn’t happen.

Should Brandun Lee’s KO of Jimmy Williams be KO of the year?

Instead, Lee put Williams down two times quickly in the first round. Williams was in bad shape and shouldn’t have been allowed to continue, but the referee didn’t stop the fight.

As Williams was allowed to continue, Lee caught him with an overhand right hook that turned off his lights and nearly sent him completely out of the ring. Many boxing fans consider Jose Zepeda’s knockout of Ivan Branchyk as the KO of the year, but they might want to reconsider.

Lee added onto his KO streak and has 10 KO victories in a row. Right now, it looks like the young prospect can’t be stopped.
