College football power rankings: Clemson cruises past Miami, Alabama shaky in win

Some big-time ranked matchups on Saturday will shake up the Week 7 college football rankings and even a crazy Red River Rivalry caused waves.

If you thought the first five weeks of the season were crazy, Week 6 took the cake, and it really wasn’t even close.

Craziness was on the docket early on as the Red River Rivalry went to overtime, and then some, and some SEC powers were upset as one had playoff hopes absolutely crushed.

Two historically-potent SEC defenses took the field on Saturday afternoon and were both downed via the upset. LSU went to Columbia to face Missouri as the hurricane down south moved the location from Baton Rouge and the time from evening to noon. This led to some whacky play as LSU found itself in a shootout with a winless Missouri team. They surrendered 580 yards to the Tigers and the defending national champs lost for the second time on the year.

Florida suffered the same fate at Texas A&M. The Aggies played the Gators tough all afternoon and had the last laugh thanks to a Florida turnover near midfield in the fourth. This was just Florida’s first loss, so it shouldn’t crush playoff hopes.

Now let’s get back to that Red River Rivalry game in Dallas. Wow. What a game. Texas was down 31-17 late in the fourth quarter, but Sam Ehlinger and the Longhorns stormed back and sent it to overtime. And just when Oklahoma looked like it would win in overtime No. 3 with a blocked field goal and ensuing possession, the Sooners missed a chip-shot. Oklahoma ended up rebounding as Spencer Rattler threw a touchdown pass and converted the two-point conversion in the fourth overtime and Sam Ehlinger threw a pick to lose.

Say goodbye to the AP Top 25, Texas.

Georgia took care of yet another ranked team in Week 6, smacking Tennessee around in the second half after a tight first 30 minutes. The Bulldogs are looking like a serious No. 1 threat.

Auburn, the team Georgia beat a week ago, was on upset alert against Arkansas which ended a 20-game losing streak in SEC play last week and held a lead over the Tigers on the road in Week 6. The Tigers had to utilize a two-minute drill against the Razorbacks and looked less than impressive in the win.

No one really expected Ole Miss to give Alabama a major test, but Lane Kiffin and Co. put up a fight. After being tied 21-21 at the half, both sides exchanged blows in the second half before Alabama shut the door.

The day was capped off with the game of the week, pinning Miami against Clemson in a top-10 ACC battle. Clemson dominated on both sides of the ball, but special teams kept the Hurricanes in it. The Tigers held on for a big top-10 win, but it wasn’t pretty.
