Twitter roasted Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler after the redshirt freshman was benched in the first half vs. rival Texas.

Spener Rattler learned that life comes at you fast.

It was only three weeks ago that the Oklahoma football starting quarterback was in the Heisman conversation right behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. But three weeks later, Rattler isn’t even assured of being the Sooners’ starting quarterback moving forward after he was benched in the first half vs. Texas in the Red River Showdown.

The former five-star recruit had high expectations to carry on the Heisman quarterback legacy in Norman but after dominating Missouri State in the opener, he’s struggled mightily in losses to Kansas State, Iowa State and now vs. Texas.

His penchant for costly turnovers has been the biggest reason for him grabbing some bench after interceptions ended Oklahoma’s hopes vs. Kansas State and Iowa State and he had two turnovers on back-to-back possessions before Lincoln Riley pulled the plug on the Spencer Rattler Experiment.

Rattler has been braggadocious dating back to his high school days so when he struggled, Twitter didn’t hold back with its criticism of the overhyped quarterback.

There’s still plenty of time for Rattler to get his season and career back on track, but it’s too late for Oklahoma to get back in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot and most likely too late to get in the mix for the Big 12 Championship Game.

He’s only a redshirt freshman so it’s not uncommon to struggle early, but it’s the first time a quarterback of Riley’s has struggled in his tenure and it’s shocking to think Rattler was once the No. 1 quarterback recruit and played this bad.
