1. Finally move for Franciso Lindor

Gleyber Torres is an exceptional offensive talent, but his defense at shortstop is well below league average. That’s why his future with the Yankees should lie somewhere else on the diamond.

Lindor would provide New York with a massive defensive upgrade at an important infield position. He’s also an exceptional hitter who could improve the Yankees lineup by putting the ball in play and making things happen with his legs. Aaron Boone’s offense needs to find a way to become less dependent on the home run. Adding Lindor would be a big step in the right direction.

The Indians know they’re facing an uphill battle to re-sign Lindor before he hits free agency after next season. That makes this offseason the perfect time to deal him for maximum value. Cleveland might want to wait until the trade deadline, but moving Lindor now would be the more prudent choice.

The Yankees will need to blow the Indians away if they want to secure his services. Lindor’s impending free agency will not allow the team to secure any sort of significant bargain.

Any prospect not named Jasson Dominguez will be on the table. That includes both Schmidt and Deivi Garcia. Cleveland will also demand at least one major league ready player. The Yankees would like that guy to be Miguel Andujar, but the Indians will push for Clint Frazier.

Next. James Paxton may have thrown his last pitch for the Yankees. dark

In the end, offering Frazier and a few high-quality prospects in exchange for Lindor might be enough to get a trade done. Frazier, Schmidt, and two lower-level guys would be a premium price for the Yankees to pay, but that’s what’s required to bring back a player of Lindor’s considerable talent.
