Fantasy POV: Kickers – 1st Quarter report card and week 5 picks
The first quarter of the 2020 NFL season is over, so it is time to pass out awards to fantasy football placekickers. The winners include Mason Crosby of Green Bay and Indianapolis Colts’ kicker Rodrigo Blankenship. The “biggest losers” are Philadelphia’s Jake Elliott and Eddy Pineiro of the Bears.
The following information lists the kickers by category and week of the season. A “1st Quarter” winner and week 5 selection are included for each category.
Surefire Starters
- Week 1 – Harrison Butker, Kansas City Chiefs
- Week 2 – Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers
- Week 3 – Younghue Koo, Atlanta Falcons
- ·Week 4 – Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers
- 1st Quarter – Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers
Summary: Given Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense’s ability to score fantasy football points (FFP), it is no surprise that Crosby is the 1st Quarter winner. The Packers have a “Bye” week and the best alternative is Cincinnati kicker Randy Bullock in week 5.
Riding the Bench
- Week 1 – This category did not start until week 2 of the season
- Week 2 – Stephen Gostkowski, Tennessee Titans
- Week 3 – Eddy Pineiro, Chicago Bears
- Week 4 – Stephen Gostkowski, Tennessee Titans and Chris Boswell, Pittsburgh Steelers
- 1st Quarter – Eddy Pineiro, Chicago Bears
Summary: Pineiro will stay on the injured reserve list (IRL) until head coach Matt Nagy is convinced Eddy is fully recovered from a groin injury.
Underrated
- Week 1 – This category did not start until week 2 of the season
- Week 2 – Daniel Carlson, Las Vegas Raiders
- Week 3 – Rodrigo Blankenship, Indianapolis Colts
- Week 4 – Matt Prater, Detroit Lions
- 1st Quarter – Rodrigo Blankenship, Indianapolis Colts
Summary: Rodrigo Blankenship has moved up to No. 2 in scoring among kickers with 47 FFP. He should get plenty of opportunities to kick the ball Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Overrated
- Week 1 – This category did not start until week 2 of the season
- Week 2 – Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles
- Week 3 – Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles
- Week 4 –Younghue Koo, Atlanta Falcons
- 1st Quarter – Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles
Summary: Jake Elliott is in the middle of the pack of placekickers. He has missed only one field goal in the first four games, but the Eagles have not generated enough offense to help their kicker put points on the scoreboard.
Sleeper Kicker of the Week
- Week 1 – This category did not start until week 2 of the season
- Week 2 – Joey Slye, Carolina Panthers
- Week 3 – Zane Gonzalez, Arizona Cardinals
- Week 4 – Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens
- 1st Quarter – Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens
Summary: The status of Ravens QB Lamar Jackson won’t impact Tucker who has proven he can make the big kicks. If Jackson doesn’t play Sunday, Baltimore may opt for more field goal attempts
