What does Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract look like?

Jimmy Garoppolo got benched to make how much money for the San Francisco 49ers?
The San Francisco 49ers benched their overpriced starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Super Bowl 54 hangover has been brutal on last year’s NFC champions. They are 2-2 through four games and are on the precipice of falling to 2-3 after struggling at home vs. the Miami Dolphins. It was so bad Garoppolo got benched in favor of former third-stringer C.J. Beathard. The only problem is Garoppolo is making a ton of money. So how much coin are we talking about here?
Few quarterbacks have been paid more for less than Jimmy Garoppolo.
He might be incredibly handsome, but that’s not going to make the 49ers brass feel any better about what they paid to get him. According to Spotrac, Garoppolo signed a five-year, $137.5 million contract with San Francisco in 2018. This then-record-setting contract came on the heels after he was traded over from the New England Patriots mid-season 2017 and played well.
In the years since that contract, Garoppolo tore his ACL in September 2018, allowing the 49ers to nosedive into getting the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. While he played like a top-half quarterback last year, he’s been hurt and he’s been benched in 2020 already. He’s slated to make over $24 million in base salary the next two years and won’t be hitting free agency until 2023.
We’re looking at over a $26 million cap hit in 2021 or 2022 if he were to be released by the team.
