Patrick Mahomes continues masterful afternoon with scrambling TD
By Mike Luciano
Patrick Mahomes recorded his second touchdown against the Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs were expected to put up tons of points against the Las Vegas Raiders given the large gulf in talent between the Chiefs’ offense and the Raiders’ defense, and Patrick Mahomes has helped fulfill that prediction by leading the Chiefs to three touchdowns in the first half. Kansas City’s third score might’ve been their most impressive, as it featured a little bit of Mahomes magic.
Mahomes was able to scramble away from the pressure applied by Paul Guenther’s defense and find Sammy Watkins in the end zone to give Kansas City a 21-10 lead. This was Mahomes’ second touchdown of the game, and his first through the air.
Patrick Mahomes is playing well against the Raiders again
Mahomes has completed nine of his 15 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown to this point. What those numbers do not show is a 63-yard heave to Tyreek Hill that was nullified by holding. Even when the Raiders have had him dead to rights, Mahomes has proven he can escape and make something happen for Kansas City.
The Raiders want to play a lot of deep zone, limit the big plays, and keep everything in front of them. However, Mahomes and Andy Reid have been able to pick apart the holes in the coverage, and Kansas City is once again holding a lead over their hated rivals. Even with all of the new additions for the Raiders on defense, they are doing little to slow down Mahomes, Watkins, and this doomsday offense.
The Raiders have the offensive personnel to make this a game, as evidenced by Derek Carr and Henry Ruggs linking up earlier in this game, but they might not stand a chance if Mahomes is making plays like that with regularity.
