Alex Smith had a good reason for not reaching out to Dak Prescott over injury.

People all over the sports world cringed when Dak Prescott suffered that horrific ankle injury on Sunday. We watched with one eye closed as the Cowboys quarterback was splayed on the field with his ankle pointed in an unnatural direction. Now, a fellow quarterback, Alex Smith, is revealing the thoughts that went through his head when he saw Prescott go down and flashed back to his own leg injury.

He also explained why he didn’t call Prescott when he saw how serious the injury was.

“I feel like I’ve become a little bit of an expert with the lower leg, so I knew it looked like his ankle immediately,” Smith said on The Dan Patrick Show. “For me, yeah, I’ve been thinking about him a lot. I’ve checked up on him through our mutual friends to see how he’s doing. I thought a lot about shooting him a text, but part of me also didn’t want to scare the hell out of him by shooting him a text and getting him thinking he might be headed down this road. I’ll let the infection risk kind of get out of the way and hopefully reach out here soon.”

Prescott was rushed into surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. Smith was returning to the playing field for the first time since 2018.
