Amarius Mims, a five-star offensive tackle from Georgia, has committed to play for the in-state Georgia Bulldogs, adding to Kirby Smart’s recruiting haul.

Georgia football had the No. 1 recruiting class last cycle and Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs are on their way to repeating after getting the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims on Wednesday afternoon.

Mims (Cochran, GA. Bleckley County) is ranked as the No. 6 overall recruit, No. 2 offensive tackle and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He committed to Georgia over Tennessee and Alabama.

The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Mims is the highest-ranked commitment on the board for Georgia and the second five-star, joining No. 13 recruit and No. 2 dual-threat quarterback Brock Vandagriff from Prince Avenue Christian School.

With the commitment from Mims, Georgia football’s recruiting class is now ranked No. 7 according to 247Sports in the nation and third in the SEC, behind No. 1 Alabama and No. 5 LSU, and just ahead of SEC East rivals Tennessee and Florida.

Amarius Mims commits to the Georgia Bulldogs

So far, the 2021 recruiting class for Georgia has put together a nice group of talent on the offensive side of the ball with Mims and Vandagriff as the headliners. Georgia also has commitments from No. 9 tackle Micah Morris, No. 4 athlete David Daniel, No. 5 guard Dylan Fairchild, No. 3 tight end Brock Bowers and No. 6 running back Lovasea Carroll.

Expect Georgia to continue adding talent on that side of the ball to give Vandagriff more big bodies to complement Mims, Morris and Fairchild on the offensive line and give him a few playmakers at receiver. Naturally, they’ll also load up on defense as well and Georgia is the expected pick for the highest-ranked uncommitted recruit in the state of Georgia, five-star outside linebacker Smael Mondon from Dallas, GA.

As for Mims, he’s been compared to former Alabama left tackle and Outland winner, Cam Robinson, who was a second-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He should compete for a starting job and be a multiple-year starter on the Dawgs offensive line and provide protection for Vandagriff.
