Browns embracing the Myles Garrett revenge game

There’s no love lost between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers entering Week 6, which will highlight Myles Garrett’s return to the rivalry.

On Nov. 14, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns made history not for the play on the field, but for the fight that took place in garbage time. In the closing seconds of regulation, Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off Mason Rudolph and used the equipment to strike the quarterback in the head, resulting in a gridiron brawl. Garrett was suspended for the remainder of the season (six games), but is set to play in his first game against the Steelers since the incident.

Leading up to the Week 6 matchup, running back Kareem Hunt said that this upcoming game is not just for Garrett, but the city of Cleveland.

“Nobody likes having their season cut short,” Hunt said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I know I didn’t. I’m almost positive I know Myles wasn’t either. That’s the thing about that. Myles is a great player, a great person and a great teammate. You just learn a lot going through situations like that. You just have to come ready, forget about all that stuff and do whatever you can. This one is for Myles. This one is for Cleveland Browns fans. This one is for a lot of things.”

Shortly after the incident, the NFL handed Garrett an indefinite ban, which was later determined to be a six-game suspension. Additionally, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey received a two-game suspension, while Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was banned for one. Both organizations were handed $250,000 fines by the league.

Shortly after his suspension, Garrett alleged that Rudolph uttered a racial slur, which caused him to lose his cool. Those allegations were immediately denied by Rudolph, and the NFL found no evidence of that ever occurring.

There’s a lot more on the line in this latest meeting. Not only is it for revenge, but for leverage in the divisional standings. The Steelers currently sit in first place in the AFC North with a 4-0 record, while the Browns sit in second with the Baltimore Ravens with a 4-1 record. A win would do wonders for either team.

Garrett will be the most hated man inside Heinz Field, and he’ll no doubt try to feed off the vitriol of Steelers fans. Through five games, the pass rusher has recorded 15 total tackles, 10 quarterback hits, six sacks and three forced fumbles.

Make no mistake about it, Steelers versus Browns is going to be must-see television not just for the drama, but for play on the field.
