NFL DFS Bargain Bin: Week 6 Sunday Slates Running Backs

Ronald Jones, TB vs. GB ($6,000-DK/$5,800-FD)

Jones continues to mostly be underappreciated in the DFS community despite coming off back-to-back 100-yard efforts and clearly taking on a heavier role in the passing game early this season. The third-year back has four or more targets in each of his last three games, and with LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette both still limited at practice with their respective ankle injuries heading into Thursday, there’s certainly a chance Jones has an extensive role again Sunday.

While all eyes will naturally be on the Tom BradyAaron Rodgers showdown in this contest, Jones could play a significant part. Not only would it behoove the Bucs to keep Rodgers off the field as much as possible by leaning on the ground attack, but Green Bay has also been susceptible to the run. The Pack has faced a league-low 78 rush attempts from RBs in part because they’ve forced teams toward the pass by creating unfavorable game script, but they’ve yielded an elevated 4.8 yards per rush to the position, along with five rushing touchdowns. GB has also given up a 31-281-2 line to backs through the air, giving Jones an additional path to production.

David Johnson, HOU vs. TEN ($5,400-DK/$6,400-FD)

Johnson has gotten plenty of flak over the last few seasons for his underwhelming numbers, and the fact he was then traded for DeAndre Hopkins this past offseason didn’t exactly temper expectations for him, either. However, the veteran has been solid when given some running room thus far in his Texans tenure, with the latest example coming in a Week 5 game against the Jaguars when he averaged an impressive 5.6 yards per rush. Houston is still working him into the passing game, but Johnson already has a serviceable 11 receptions on 18 targets through five contests as well.

The Texans turned to the air plenty versus the Jaguars in their first game without the deposed Bill O’Brien at the helm, but they continued to make a concerted effort to get the ball in Johnson’s hands — his 17 carries were a season high, and he also logged four targets. Johnson has seen double-digit carries in each game thus far, and the matchup for running backs against Tennessee hasn’t been prohibitive by any means: the Titans have allowed a massive 5.6 yards per carry to running backs while also yielding the second-most second-level yards (1.6) and most open-field yards (1.8) per carry.
