The Kansas City Chiefs still must be on cloud nine entering the weekend following Thursday’s news

Already one of the more explosive offense’s in the NFL, the rich became richer when the team announced they agreed to terms with free agent running back Le’Veon Bell.

Bell, who has since signed a one-year deal to join the defending Super Bowl Champs, was released by the New York Jets after the team could not find a suitable trade partner. However, what might be even crazier than the future connection between Patrick Mahomes and the three-time Pro Bowler, is the knowledge that Bell ultimately always wanted to land in the Chiefs Kingdom.

In 2019, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones posted a video talking about the crazy NFL offseason. Just before the closing seconds, the camera turns to Bell, who then screamed ‘what if I was in KC going crazy then?’

Since 2019, Bell was destined to be a Chief

Bell, who signed a lucrative four-year, $52.5 million deal with the Jets later that offseason, never found his footing in Adam Gase’s system during his brief stay in gang green.

From the start, the former Steelers time in the Big Apple was a down one, as Gase stated he never wanted the team to sign the then 27-year-old free agent under former GM Mike Maccagnan. Ultimately, the two butted heads, leading to Bell calling out the head coach via social media following the team’s 30-10 loss against Arizona in Week 5.

“I hate that’s the route that we go with all of this instead of just talking to me about it, but it is the way guys want to do it nowadays,” Gase said prior to Bell’s release earlier this week.

In two seasons with the Jets, Bell tallied 863 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He was hurt by mundane offensive line play was limited by play calling that didn’t cater to his dual-threat skill set. The Jets paid Bell $28 million to suit up for 17 games, and will still owe him another $6 million for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Bell, 28, was once considered one of the league’s top offensive weapons during his in Pittsburgh. In five seasons, the two-time All-Pro rushed for 5,336 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also had 312 receptions for 2,660 yards and seven scores.

Kansas City is expected to use Bell as a secondary runner behind the likes of rookie Clyde Edwards-Helarie and a third weapon in the passing game alongside Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Earlier this week, the team announced wide receiver Sammy Watkins would miss “several games” due to a hamstring injury.

Bell reportedly won’t play against the Bills this Monday, but expect him to be a weapon shortly thereafter.
