The Premier League season resumes following the international break. On Saturday, Newcastle host Manchester United at St. James’ Park. The Magpies have got off to a solid start, picking up seven points in their first four games. While the Red Devils have been very disappointing, picking up only one win from their first three games.
In their last game before the break, Newcastle defeated Burnley 3-1. Callum Wilson has been a brilliant signing for the Magpies, scoring twice against Burnley. The former Bournemouth striker has scored four goals and will look to continue his hot start to the season. Wilson should start up front next to last season’s transfer bust Joelinton. Allan Saint-Maximin was rewarded with a contract extension this week and will play a key role in the Newcastle attack along with Wilson and Joelinton.
The temperature continues to increase around the seat of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United were humiliated in their last game, losing 6-1 to Tottenham in their final game before the international break. The Red Devils have scored only five goals this season but that hardly seems like a problem compared to the 11 goals they have conceded. Only West Brom have allowed more goals than United but they have also played one more game than the Red Devils. Paul Pogba will have to be significantly better if United are going to turn their season around and finish in the top four. The French midfielder has failed to come anywhere close to meeting expectations this season. As has captain Harry Maguire, who has been mistake-prone at center-back. If United are not able to correct their mistakes, it will be Solskjaer who will pay for it.
