The Premier League returns from the international break with Crystal Palace hosting Brighton in the M23 derby at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Palace have split their first two games of the season, while the Seagulls have three points in their first four games.
Crystal Palace got off to a great start to the season, winning both their games, but have now lost two in a row. The Eagles lost 4-0 to Chelsea in their final game before the international break. Palace decided to upgrade their keeper, signing Jack Butland from Stoke. Butland was once in competition to be England’s first-choice keeper but has struggled since Stoke were relegated. Palace are hoping that Butland can rebound with the move to Selhurst Park. Offensively, Palace’s attack goes through Wilfred Zaha and Andros Townsend, who have combined for four goals and two assists. If either Zaha or Townsend has a strong performance, there is a good chance that the Eagles leave with three points.
Brighton are coming off losses to Manchester United and Everton in their most recent games. The Seagulls are averaging two goals a game but that has not been enough. Brighton have conceded 10 goals, including seven in their losses to United and Everton. The Seagulls will have to be significantly better defensively if they are going to string together a series of wins this season. Neal Maupay has scored four of the club’s eight goals. The French striker has been great since joining the club and will be the focal point of their attack.
