It took NFL refs five minutes to overturn the worst call ever in 49ers-Rams (Video)

NFL referees almost made one of the worst calls in football history during Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams-San Francisco 49ers game.
Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season featured some pretty questionable calls. The prime example happened during the early afternoon game between the Washington Football Team and the New York Giants, where cornerback Kendall Fuller was determined to have intercepted quarterback Daniel Jones in the end zone, despite the fact his elbow hit out of bounds. NFL fans almost had a heart attack during the Sunday Night Football game, because a terrible call was almost confirmed by the officiating crew following a review.
In the second quarter, San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon hit the turf back first, and let go of the ball a handful of seconds later because he was down. However, the Los Angeles Rams recovered the ball and the referees ruled it a fumble!
Fans endured five straight minutes of confusion
If you thought the play was going to get overturned immediately, those on-field officials didn’t see it the same way. It appeared that the refs were actually going to confirm the fumble before the league offices called them back to review the play again! You know it’s bad when the referees had to be called back into the proverbial principal’s office.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was all of us. Football fans had to be so baffled that these refs were going to blow the easiest video review in NFL history! Luckily, the individuals in the zebra stripes saw the error in their ways, and ruled that McKinnon was down after an over five-minute review. That was five minutes too long, to be quite frank.
San Francisco used that five minutes of frustration against Los Angeles, as quarterback Jimmy Garoppplo hit tight end George Kittle for a 44-yard touchdown to extend their lead over the Rams to 14-0.
Folks, we almost witnessed history for all the wrong reasons. Luckily, our sanity has been saved!
