Matt Patricia is in danger of being fired if the Lions lose Week 6
If the Detroit Lions fall to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, could the team end up parting ways with head coach Matt Patricia?
In what was supposed to be a magical year for the Detroit Lions, fans have watched the team sputter to an abysmal 1-3 record. While Detroit has struggled on both sides of the ball, plenty of blame has gone to Matt Patricia, who has looked lost on the sidelines at times this season due to the poor play of his group.
Per NFL insider Jason La Canfora, Patricia may not be roaming the sidelines for much longer. That’s because with a loss on Sunday, the 46-year-old coach could end up being out of a job.
A Sunday loss to Jacksonville could spell the end for Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia
Per La Canfora, the front office has been extremely disappointed with Detroit’s play this season, with the team’s inability to hang on to leads standing out. At the same time, La Canfora says the organization nearly fired Patricia at the end of the 2019 campaign, but things didn’t end up going in that direction.
In 2020, though, patience is already running thin on Patricia. Detroit indeed is 1-3 on the year and doesn’t look ready to make any serious noise in the NFC North. With Green Bay a perfect 4-0 and the Bears at 4-1, the Lions and Vikings are basically considered an afterthought in the division right now.
While the players have struggled since Week 1, the team’s win-loss record will always end up coming back to Patricia. And if his guys don’t deliver for him in a big way on Sunday, a 1-4 record following a loss to Jacksonville very well may be what ends up landing Patricia on the unemployment line.
