Ryan Fitzpatrick has cut to the front of the line of the Tua Tagovailoa fan club.

Tua Tagovailoa got to play in Week 6, and Ryan Fitzpatrick was elated for his teammate.

Not since Tagovailoa dislocated his hip vs. the Mississippi State Bulldogs had the talented Hawaiian southpaw quarterback got to play in a game that counted. Though he traded in his Alabama Crimson Tide jersey in for a Miami Dolphins uniform, he got to play in garbage time vs. the flightless New York Jets. Fitzpatrick’s reaction to Tagovailoa getting to play is everything.

Fitzpatrick is Miami’s present, but Tagovailoa is the Dolphins’ future.

It has been almost a year since Tagovailoa last played in a game. His injury vs. Mississippi State could have been a career-ender, yet he preserved and became the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Dolphins. While Fitzpatrick has guided the Dolphins to a solid 3-3 record through three games, it won’t be his job forever, as Tagovailoa will eventually take over in South Florida.

Tagovailoa attempted and completed two passes for nine yards in his NFL debut. Sure, it was in extreme garbage time vs. the unquestioned worst team in the league. Yet, it was a moment Tagovailoa and his extended family will never forget. He did great things in three years with the Crimson Tide, so we can only begin to imagine what he’s capable of now that he’s on the Dolphins.

We may have to wait awhile before his first career start, but we finally got to see Tagovailoa play.
