Cleveland Browns

Los Angeles Chargers. Casey Hayward. 26. player. 13. . CB

The Browns have shocked plenty of people this year, including myself. This is the Cleveland team that we expected last year, so it is just a year late. Despite their success on offense, their defense could still use some improvement, and it starts at the cornerback position.

Casey Hayward is one of the top cover cornerbacks in the NFL. Severely underrated, he has helped transform the Chargers Secondary into one that offenses fear. He consistently is assigned to the other team’s top WR, and just as often, he shuts that player down. Casey is in the second year of his 3 year/$33.25 million extension. He just turned 30 years old and has several more years left in the tank. The Browns lack cornerback talent, despite an above average performance against the Colts recently. The Browns are looking to win now, and Hayward greatly improves those chances.

Additionally, Hayward can mentor the younger CBs that the Browns have drafted. He could prove to be a great investment, both short term and long term. If things go poorly with Hayward, the Browns would not have to trade much to get him, and they would get his money off the salary cap as 2021 is non-guaranteed for Hayward.
