Did Wander Franco just hint he’s on Rays World Series roster?
Wander Franco, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, may have just posted a hint that he’s on the Rays World Series roster
The Rays are going to the World Series, which is an exciting time for the entire city of Tampa Bay.
What could possibly add to the anticipation? A World Series debut for the No. 1 prospect in baseball, Wander Franco.
The possibility might not have been on people’s minds, but it sure is now after the 19-year-old posted a video on his Instagram story showing his jersey with a World Series patch on the shoulder.
It’s unclear what the jersey means in terms of a place on the 28-man roster. Franco was included in the 40-player pool submitted by the Rays or the MLB postseason.
Does the jersey mean he’s on track to make his MLB debut in the World Series of all series?
Wander Franco is a major prospect for the future, and maybe the now
The biggest evidence against the idea of Franco securing a place on the World Series roster is a social media post from another prospect. Vidal Brujan, who was also named to the 40-man pool, also posted a picture of his jersey with the patch.
It’s still fun to imagine a dream appearance for Franco considering the level of hype around his ability.
Franco is a shortstop from the Dominican Republic who has been tapped as one of the future stars of the game. However, he hasn’t played at a level higher than Single-A yet.
The Rays made it to the World Series with a win over the Astros on Saturday, avoiding an embarrassing meltdown after winning their first three games of the series. They’ll be facing a Dodgers team that did nearly the opposite. They fell down 3-1 to the Braves only to overturn the series with a Game 7 win on Sunday.
