RB Leipzig face Basaksehir at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Champions League begins on Tuesday with RB Leipzig hosting Basaksehir at Red Bull Arena. Leipzig reached the semifinal last season, the furthest they had ever advanced in the tournament. Basaksehir are making their Champions League debut after winning the Turkish Super Lig last year.
Leipzig are in the Champions League for the second consecutive season and look like they could become a fixture for years to come. The Red Bulls are first in the Bundesliga with 10 points in their first four games. Manager Julian Nagelsmann is among the best managers in Europe, but he will be dealing with several key injuries on Tuesday. Marcel Sabitzer, Lukas Klostermann and Konrad Laimer are among the players that could miss the game. If Sabitzer is unable to play, it will create a large hole in Leipzig’s attack. Emil Forsberg will have to pick up the slack. The Swedish winger is having a resurgence, scoring two goals and adding two assists this season.
Basaksehir’s title defense has gotten off to a terrible start. The Istanbul club has four points in their first five games and are second-to-last in the Turkish Super Lig table. Manager Okan Buruk’s team has been extremely poor offensively, scoring only two goals this season. Up against a much bigger club, it could be a very difficult day for the Champions League debutants.
