Stade Rennais face Krasnodar at Roazhon Park on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The group stage of the Champions League begins on Tuesday with Stade Rennais hosting Krasnodar at Roazhon Park. Tuesday’s game is the rare game between two clubs making their Champions League debut.
Stage Rennais qualified for the Champions League after finishing third in the pandemic-shortened Ligue 1 season. While the Red and Blacks do not have any Champions League experience, they have featured in the Europa League the past two seasons. The club added Daniele Rugani and Steven Nzonzi to strengthen the club defensively and provide Champions League experience. The duo should help aid a very young and inexperienced team. Domestically, Rennais are tied for second in Ligue 1 after seven games.
Since 2014, Krasnodar have been a fixture in European competitions. However, this is the first time that the Bulls have qualified for the Champions League after knocking PAOK out in the qualifying round. Krasnodar finished third in the Russian Premier League last season but have gotten off to a disappointing start this season. Despite having the third-best goal differential in Russia, the Bulls are seventh with 18 points in 11 games. Manager Murad Musaev will be working with a shorthanded squad on Tuesday. Five players are dealing with injuries or positive COVID-19 tests. The most notable absence will be French midfield Remy Cabella, who is second on the club with four goals.
