Daniel Jones continued his struggles against non-Washington teams last night.

The New York Giants were so close to pulling out their second win of the season, but Daniel Jones and company melted down once again, meaning that the Giants’ streak of futility at Lincoln Financial Field that extends back to the Michael Vick days in 2013 remains intact. While the defense and tight end Evan Engram are getting barbecued this morning, this loss stands as another poor performance within the division by New York’s supposed QB1.

After winning his first start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jones has gone 3-0 in starts against Washington under both their offensive and non-offensive monikers. Against every other team in the league, however, Jones has yet to win a start in 15 tries. While he has seven touchdowns and three picks against Washington, his 22 TD/16 INT ratio against everyone else is disheartening.

Daniel Jones turned the ball over twice against the Eagles

While Jones has had the misfortune of a porous offensive line, minimal perimeter talent, and subpar coaching, the fact that Jones is trying to be a franchise quarterback, yet is unable to beat anyone that isn’t wearing maroon and gold, should give Giants fans pause for thought when discussing how high his ceiling is.

He had his moments in this game, as he threw two touchdowns and ripped of an 80-yard run that ended in a comical fashion, but his turnover problems came back to bite them in the butt once again. Jones threw an interception, his seventh of the season, before fumbling on a last-gasp drive to seal a victory for Philadelphia.

The turnover problems need to subside if Jones is to reach his full potential, and last night didn’t do a ton to inspire confidence.

If Jones played Washington every week, he’d be an All-Pro. However, when he had to go up against a motivated Eagles team looking to earn a spot in first place, he wilted once again.
