Walker Buehler made history in his Game 3 start

Walker Buehler’s pitching performance in Game 3 of the World Series for the Dodgers was historically great.

In the pitching matchup between Walker Buehler of the Dodgers and Charlie Morton of the Rays in Game 3, it’s safe to say Buehler came away on top.

It’s not just that Morton spoiled his exceptional postseason ERA with a disastrous four innings pitched. In fact, even if Morton had had a great outing, the Dodgers pitcher simply left not doubt.

With 10 strikeouts in the game, Buehler became the first pitcher in the history of the World Series with double-digit strikeouts in no more than six innings, according to MLB PR.

Buehler put his name in rare company with his outing.

He is one of just seven Dodger pitchers to throw 10 strikeouts in a World Series start and only the third to allow three or fewer hits while doing it. Only Sandy Koufax and Clayton Kershaw had done it before, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

In history, only two pitchers younger than Buehler at 26-years-old pulled off that feat including Josh Beckett in 2003 and Ed Walsh in 1906.

Basically, Buehler is a monster of a pitcher, particularly on the biggest of stages.

For the Dodgers, that bodes incredibly well for the future of the franchise looking to secure their first World Series since 1988.

Clayton Kershaw delivered a strong Game 1 performance to secure LA the win. Tampa Bay followed that up with a Game 2 victory on the back of a stellar outing from Blake Snell to tie the series back up.

In fact, Snell’s four no-hit innings in Game 2 followed by four no-hit innings from Buehler on Friday is the first time two pitchers have managed to start so well in back-to-back World Series games since 1965, per Stats By STATS.
