The Dodgers are looking to take a commanding lead in the World Series, but the Rays can even things up in Game 4.
It’s been a weird World Series, which is almost fitting given how the entire postseason has gone. The whole season, for that matter, was wonky and now things are culminating both aggressively and quickly.
After taking a misstep in Game 2, the Los Angeles Dodgers throttled Tampa Bay on Friday to take a 2-1 series lead — one that they intend on making a 3-1 lead and thus dragging the Rays to the brink of elimination in the process.
It’s been a visceral beating at the hands of the Dodgers, with 18 runs scored in total and Los Angeles out scoring Tampa Bay a combined 14-5 in both of its victories. Game 4 will help illuminate whether the Dodgers Game 2 loss was an anomaly or if this is truly going to be a World Series of violent pendulum swings.
Tampa Bay shouldn’t be discounted simply because it was roasted in its two losses. The Rays’ 6-4 win a few days ago showed us what this team can do when its firing on all cylinders. After all, Tampa Bay stormed into the postseason as AL East champions and dispatched of the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Astros with relative ease. Things were tight in the ALCS but it seemed the Rays never wavered, and it’s that track record that means the Dodgers had best take Game 4 and not let Tampa Bay think it has a chance at coming back in the series.
That’s what Los Angeles did against Atlanta, as it stacked momentum on top of itself to build a 3-1 series comeback. Whether or not the Dodgers are capable of finally tossing the World Series curse off its back is something we’ll see about in Game 4.
