Lane Kiffin knows SEC refs screwed Ole Miss vs. Auburn
Lane Kiffin is rightly salty over SEC refs ruling against Ole Miss on what could have been a game-changing touchdown against Auburn.
Lane Kiffin couldn’t say SEC refs screwed Ole Miss himself, so he found someone on Twitter to do it for him.
After Auburn benefited from a questionable decision in their 35-28 win over the Rebels, Kiffin retweeted an Ole Miss alum who blasted the refs on Twitter.
The play in question involved Auburn’s Shaun Shivers, who had a kickoff bounce by him with just under six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Rebels players jumped on in the end zone. Ole Miss led 28-27 at the time and should have been awarded a touchdown putting them up by as many as nine.
Instead, refs ruled the ball was untouched and never reviewed the play.
Here’s the actual tweet Kiffin shared, including video of the ball hitting the Auburn return man’s fingers.
As you can see, Shiver’s left pinky touched the ball.
Ole Miss ended up losing to Auburn after being denied a touchdown
Auburn didn’t manage to score any points on the ensuing drive, but the loss of a touchdown for the Rebels proved costly. The Tigers went on to score a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 1:11 left in the game, winning 35-28.
In his postgame comments on the Ole Miss Radio Network, Kiffin was critical of the refs for not stopping the game to take a closer look.
“I don’t know why. I asked why on a critical play like that would you not stop,” he said, per Football Scoop. “And they said, ‘Well, someone looked at it upstairs and said he didn’t touch it.’ It looked like from our vantage point he did touch it.”
The retweet Kiffin later dropped took it a bit further, accusing refs of rigging things in favor of Auburn.
Calls have certainly gone Auburn’s way this season. Late against Arkansas two weeks ago refs wiped away a turnover when quarterback Bo Nix clocked the ball with a backward pass.
