Michigan fullback Ben Mason cartwheeling into the end zone is peak Big Ten (Video)
Michigan delivered the fullback touchdown of the year so far as Ben Mason flipped into the endzone for the score against Minnesota.
The return of Big Ten football has delivered fireworks and upsets. Best of all? Fullback touchdowns.
On Saturday, Michigan saw Wisconsin score the first touchdown for the Big Ten in 20202 with a pass to the fullback and decided to one-up them.
A touchdown pass to the fullback is one thing, but how about one via a summersault?
Ben Mason scored his first career receiving touchdown in style by flipping over a defender and getting the ball just inside the pylon to put the Wolverines up 21-10 over Minnesota right at the end of the first quarter.
A touchdown justified Ben Mason’s decision to return to Michigan’s offense
Mason has found the endzone for Michigan before. He started his career by scoring two rushing touchdowns in 2017. He proved an even bigger red zone threat in 2018 with seven touchdowns in 33 carries.
Last year, he tried his hand at defense, appearing in 13 games on the defensive line. However, his return for his senior season involved a return to the offensive side of the ball.
Technically, Mason is listed as a tight end on Michigan’s roster, even if his role continues to be more focused towards blocking. A tight end flipping into the endzone like that is no less thrilling.
It was an eventful opening quarter for the Wolverines. They conceded the first touchdown to Minnesota but went on to outscore the Gophers 21-3 in the final 12:33 of the quarter.
They piled on some more before half time with two touchdown runs from Hassan Haskins to put them up 35-17.
