Some teams have turnover chains or other bling, but Penn State football has their very own turnover thank you card and it’s really beautiful.

Big Ten football has returned, and we’ve already got plenty of stories to talk about in its season opener. Rutgers upset Michigan State in Greg Schiano’s return game and Justin Fields solidified his Heisman Trophy case in Ohio State’s decisive victory over Nebraska. But when it comes to turnover celebrations, no one did it better than Penn State. And they did it without flare! Yes, you read that correctly.

We’ve seen extravagant chains and biceps curls by defenders who force a turnover, but the Nittany Lions took a more simple approach. After LaMont Wade recovered a fumble off Indiana running back Stevie Scott III, Penn State’s defense held up a gigantic thank you card as their token of appreciation to their opponents.

Penn State made Indiana feel bad for turning the ball over

The poster-board, at first sight, appears to be very kind-hearted until you actually read it. To tell Indiana that you “appreciate [their] contributions to a brighter future for us and our program,” that’s seriously cold-blooded! Although the timing of the cards was a bit suspect.

The Nittany Lions were down 17-7 at the time of the debut of the thank you card. The Hoosiers scored 10 points immediately off two interceptions from quarterback Sean Clifford. Although Penn State did resurge in the second half to retake the lead, so maybe, just maybe, the card served as motivation for the squad.

Penn State proved that you don’t need bling to rub salt in the wounds of your opponents. Passive aggressiveness is just as effective! Other football programs should take notes and began to show off their arts and crafts skills like Penn State.
