West Virginia football decided it needed to hand Texas Tech football the victory on Saturday.

West Virginia football was so nice to Texas Tech Football that it gave away a victory.

With the game tied at 27 with under nine minutes left, West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Jarret Doege completed a pass to wide receiver Sam James for a two-yard loss. To make matters worse, James handed the ball to Texas Tech Red Raiders linebacker Jacob Morgenstern on the fumble. Texas Tech defensive back Zech McPhearson took it 56 yards for the go-ahead and subsequently game-winning score.

West Virginia played way too nice on the road and got a win stolen from them.

Even though the ‘Eers have won three games under second-year head coach Neal Brown, how do you even lose a game this way? If West Virginia got to 4-1, the Mountaineers would have an outside shot at being ranked, as their only other loss would have been to the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Instead, they let Texas Tech rip victory away from the jaws of defeat on them.

At 2-3, maybe this will be a win that will help get things moving in the right direction for Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells? If not, this is just a testament to what not finishing the drill looks like for West Virginia. If the ‘Eers want to get back to being a dominant program like they used to be in the old Big East, they can’t lose games like this on the road to an inferior Texas Tech team.

It’ll be a long flight home back to Morgantown after losing a game in this horrendous fashion.
