Yes, the Bills won, but they looked horrible doing it

The Buffalo Bills looked very sloppy in an 18-10 win over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

We’ll start with the positive for Buffalo Bills’ fans: the two-game losing streak is over. The Bills beat the winless New York Jets 18-10 to improve to 5-2 on the season, but how they got there was far from inspiring.

The Jets actually jumped out to a 10-0 lead in this game, setting off signs of worry for the Bills’ faithful from the get-go. Buffalo managed to move the football, racking up 422 yards of offense compared to just 190 for the Jets, but they couldn’t convert any of their five red-zone trips into touchdowns.

A key Josh Allen fumble hurt one drive while rookie kicker Tyler Bass, who provided all 18 of Buffalo’s points with six made field goals, missed two from inside 50 yards. The Bills also racked up 11 penalties for 106 yards, playing extremely sloppy football but getting away with it only because of their opposition.

Anyone who has seen the Jets play this year knows they are clearly the worst team in football and this game was another reason why. Sam Darnold looked lost after a solid start to the game and the Jets’ offense gained a whopping four yards in the second half, which is not a misprint, showcasing how inept the whole organization is at football.

The sloppy play the Bills have showcased in losses to the Titans and Chiefs continued this week, which is a big problem since they are out of games against the Jets to right the ship. Buffalo’s remaining schedule features a pair of games with the New England Patriots as well as matchups against the Seahawks, Cardinals, 49ers, Steelers and resurgent Dolphins.

The oddsmakers set the Bills as 13.5-point favorites entering this game so the fact the Jets kept it close is more of an indictment of how poorly Buffalo played rather than any great accomplishment on New York’s end. Sean McDermott needs to get his group’s act together to avoid getting passed by either Miami or New England in the division before all is said and done.
