Ron Rivera apologizing to Mike McCarthy for Jon Bostic dirty hit isn’t enough
By John Buhler
It’s too late for Ron Rivera to apologize to Mike McCarthy for Jon Bostic’s dirty hit.
Ron Rivera tried to apologize to Mike McCarthy for Jon Bostic‘s late hit on Andy Dalton.
Though it may have been a sincere apology from the head coach of the Washington Football Team, that hit by one of his players removed McCarthy’s backup quarterback for the game. The Dallas Cowboys weren’t going to win this contest anyway, but they had no shot of coming back once Dalton had to exit the game after Bostic knocked him out. He should be suspended for it.
“I told him, Jon, you’re a veteran guy, you should know better,” said Rivera to Pro Football Talk over the phone. “I didn’t see it and I was really kind of asking everyone what happened. They said, ‘He hit him, Coach.’ And then when he got ejected, that really surprised me.”
“I went up to him and apologized to him for it,” said Rivera on his interaction with McCarthy postgame. “I wanted him to know that we don’t play that way, and it’s unfortunate that it happened.”
Jon Bostic needs to be fined, miss at least one game for his hit on Andy Dalton.
The Cowboys had to go with seventh-round rookie Ben DiNucci the rest of the way. If Dalton misses time because of this injury, it will be Garrett Gilbert backing up the rookie quarterback out of James Madison University. Even though Bostic was ejected from the game after his hit on Dalton, he doesn’t need to play in Washington’s next game vs. the New York Giants on Nov. 8.
Even though none of the teams in the NFC East are the least bit good, Dallas, Washington and even New York are still in contention for a division crown, as they are chasing the flightless Philadelphia Eagles through seven weeks. Whether or not you want to believe it, one of these four awful football teams will be hosting a home playoff game this postseason. It’s unbelievable.
An apology isn’t going to bring Dalton back into the game, so Bostic must be suspended and fined.
