Seahawks RB Chris Carson considered week-to-week with foot injury
By Mike Luciano
Chris Carson’s foot injury will sideline him for some time.
The Seattle Seahawks did not return from their bye in triumphant fashion, as a few interceptions from Russell Wilson keyed an Arizona Cardinals comeback that propelled Kyler Murray and company to a 5-2 record while Seattle suffered their first loss of the season. The bad news kept coming on Monday, as running back Chris Carson’s foot injury was indeed bad enough to cost him some game time.
Ian Rapoport is confirming that Carson suffered a foot sprain against Arizona, and his “week-to-week” designation is a sign that he might not be available for a Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Chris Carson will likely be replaced by a committee of running backs
Carson is coming off of back-to-back seasons of 1,300 yards from scrimmage, but he is seeing his responsibility diminish as “Let Russ Cook” has taken over the offense. Still, Carson has ran for 323 yards on 4.9 yards per carry and has found the end zone six times this season. Now that his fumbling issue from last year has dissipated, Carson was playing some excellent football in 2020.
Seattle, luckily, isn’t starving for options to replace him. Backup Carlos Hyde topped 1,000 yards on the ground with the Houston Texans last season. He is the most likely option to take over the RB1 role from the injured Carson. Former Miami starter Travis Homer has big-play potential given his speed, and rookie DeeJay Dallas might also see an increased workload in the wake of this injury.
In years’ past, Brian Schottenheimer losing his RB1 would’ve been a tragedy. However, given how aggressive the Seahawks have been in allowing Wilson to go down the field to their trio of excellent receivers, Seattle might be able to weather this storm until he returns to full health.
