With the season compressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Champions League group stage will take place over six weeks instead of the normal 12-week timetable. In the second game of the group stage, Lokomotiv Moscow host Bayern Munich at RZD Arena. In their opening games, Lokomotiv drew with RB Salzburg. While Bayern easily defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Lokomotiv are trying to get out of the group stage for the first time since 2004. However, it will not be easy going up against Bayern Munich, the defending Champions League winners. Manager Marko Nikolic will likely use a defensive gameplan and try to steal a point from a significantly more talented Bayern team. The strength of Lokomotiv are their midfielders. Grzegorz Krychowiak and Anton Miranchuk are the two best players on Lokomotiv and will have to play well in midfield if Lokomotiv have any shot of getting a point.

Bayern Munich have not dropped points in the Champions League since March 13, 2019, when they were defeated by Liverpool. Since that loss, the Bavarians have won 12 straight Champions League game. In the Bundesliga, Bayern smashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1. Robert Lewandowski scored three goals against Eintracht and already has 10 goals in the Bundesliga. After scoring 55 goals last season, Lewandowski is on pace for another incredible season. The only negative from Bayern’s victory over Frankfurt was the ankle injury suffered by Alphonso Davies, who will miss at least the next six weeks. Last season, the injury to Davies would have been devastating. However, this season, Bayern reinforced their squad, and last summer’s big signing Lucas Hernandez has been great at left-back.
