This week, the European Tour presents the Draftkings/DFS community with the Cyprus Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

Here are my Draftkings player selections for the Cyprus Open!

Sami Valimaki $8,900

The 22 year old Englishman has four top 13 finishes in his last five events played on the European Tour, including a second place result at the ISPS Handa Wales Open in August.

Matthew Southgate $8,600

Southgate certainly checks the box for me when it comes to recent form. Let’s take a quick look at some of Southgate’s recent results on the European Tour. The Englishman finished 22nd at the English Open in July, ninth at the Scottish Open in September, and 16th at the Scottish Championship earlier this month.

Sean Crocker $8,500

The 24 year old American has played ten events on the European Tour since the Tour re-started the season in July. In those ten events played, Crocker has four top 22 finishes, including a ninth place result at the Scottish Open two weeks ago. It should also be noted that Crocker made the cut in nine of the ten events he has played since July.

After four rounds of play at the Scottish Open (Crocker’s last event played), in relation to the field, Crocker ranked sixth in strokes gained tee to green (2.33), fourth in strokes gained approach (1.69), and 11th in putting average (1.60).

Marcus Armitage $8,200

Armitage fired a final round 66 at last week’s Italian Open en route to an eventual tenth place finish. Upon the completion of four rounds of play at the Italian Open, in relation to the field, Armitage ranked 13th in GIR (greens in regulation-72.25%) and seventh in strokes gained approach (1.38).

David Horsey $7,700

The Englishman has four top 14 finishes in his last seven events on the European Tour, including a sixth place result at the Celtic Classic in August.

It should be noted that Horsey has shown an ability to play at a high level in golf tournaments that present strong fields of talent. Let me provide an example. Horsey finished 13th at the BMW Championship earlier this month. This event is one of the most respected tournaments on the European Tour each and every year. This tournament always has a stacked field of talent and is contested on a very challenging golf course.

Ben Stow $7,200

The 29 year old arrives at this week’s event on the heels of three consecutive top 27 finishes on the European Tour. One of the three top 27 finishes just mentioned was a 16th place result at the Scottish Open two weeks ago.
