Does Josh Allen get right vs. the Patriots on Sunday?
By John Buhler
Josh Allen could have his best game in weeks vs. the New England Patriots.
For the first quarter of the 2020 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills had a serious MVP candidate on their team in quarterback Josh Allen. He was playing easily his best football since being drafted in the top 10 out of Wyoming three years ago. However, there was a clear regression to the mean with him. While his last three weeks have been underwhelming, does he bounce back in Week 8?
The Fantasy Footballers contemplate if Allen will be a top-10 fantasy quarterback on Sunday vs. the New England Patriots. In short, will Allen give your fantasy football team a QB1 performance at home vs. a hated division rival? The guys are split on this and for good reason. The Patriots are in win-now mode at 2-4, hoping to keep their increasingly slim playoff dreams alive for 2020.

Though Jason Moore and Mike Wright are out on Allen having a top-10 fantasy performance vs. the Patriots on Sunday, Andy Holloway is in. He believes the weekly baseline we get out of Allen as a runner will be there, but his performance will be elevated by the touchdown passes that haven’t been there for Allen the last three games. Allen has four touchdown passes since Week 4.
The Patriots are in desperation mode in Week 8, so beware, Bills fans
Statistically, Allen has not performed well against New England in his young NFL career. He is averaged 193 yards through the air on 15-of-32 passing for one touchdown. Those numbers won’t be anywhere close to getting him into QB1 fantasy conversations. The question is do you believe he will throw for 300 yards, two touchdowns and take another one in himself in Week 8?
With this game being in Orchard Park and the Bills being the better team than New England, it feels were are more likely to get a top-10 fantasy quarterback performance out of Allen this week than not. Let’s be real. Given what he showed us in the first four weeks of the season, if he’s on your fantasy roster, he’s probably your QB1 anyway and you’re hoping he plays up to that level.
Ultimately, if he is going to get to a QB1 level, it will be by the skin of his teeth. Throwing for 300 yards or more on the Patriots secondary doesn’t feel likely. However, he could throw for two touchdowns on New England, and possibly take one in himself in a goal-line situation. If the Bills come out and prove to us all right away they are the better team, then Allen has this in the bag.
