2021 NFL Mock Draft: New York Jets and Giants go No. 1 and 2
By Brad Weiss
New York football has been atrocious this season if you are a team not named the Bills, as the New York Jets and Giants will pick No. 1 and No. 2 in April.
Week 7 of the 2020 NFL season is officially in the books, and the college football season has ramped up with the Big Ten starting their slate. There is still a long way to go, but it is never too early to start looking ahead to next April’s NFL Draft.
Here is our latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
The New York Jets are the only winless team remaining in the NFL this season, this after dropping a close one to the Buffalo Bills. Sam Darnold actually looked good in the first half, but could not string four quarters together, as the Jets were able to muster only ten points in another embarrassing loss.
Even though they selected Darnold third overall only a few years ago, I do not see the team passing on a talent like Trevor Lawrence. This is one of those quarterbacks that comes along once in a while, and the having the No. 1 pick, he lands with the Jets, though they could trade away this pick if they are convinced Darnold is the guy.
The New York Giants will follow their roomates at MetLife Stadium by picking at No. 2 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. With the pick, they could go a number of different ways, including trading out, but this defense absolutely needs a player like Penn State’s Micah Parsons.
Parsons is sitting out the 2020 college football season, but that is not going to matter in terms of his draft status. This guy plays sideline to sideline, is an elite tackler, and on this Giants defense, would by far be the best player, even as a rookie.
The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to be one of the worst teams in football this season, but they do hold two first round picks next April, and will be looking to revamp this roster. With the No. 3 overall pick, look for them to add a quarterback, and they get a good one in this mock draft in Justin Fields from Ohio State.
Fields got his 2020 college football season off with a bang, putting together a nearly perfect game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. While Minshew Mania was fun, the Jags cannot afford to pass on Fields, who has franchise quarterback written all over him.
